Patrick Swayze lost his 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer and died on Monday at the age of 57. The star of such hits as
Dirty Dancing and
Ghost was diagnosed in January 2008. His publicist told The Associated Press that the actor died with family at his side.
Patrick's last acting project was the A&E series
The Beast, in which he played an undercover FBI agent.
In an interview with
Barbara Walters, the actor spoke of his illness. “I keep my heart and my soul and my spirit open to miracles,” he said. But he also believed in living his life, and not wasting time pursuing experimental treatments. If he were to “spend so much time chasing staying alive,” Patrick said, he wouldn’t be able to enjoy the time he had left. “I want to live."
Patrick is survived by his wife,
Lisa Niemi, whom he met when they were teenage students at his mom’s dance studio. They were married 34 years.

Kanye West might not have stolen the show – but he did steal the microphone from
Taylor Swift. After Taylor received the award for Best Female Video at the 2009 VMAs for her song “You Belong to Me”, the rapper stormed onstage, grabbed the mic from the country singer and protested in support of
Beyoncé. “I'm sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time," he said. A stunned Beyoncé invited Taylor onstage to have the acceptance speech she deserved, later on in the show. Kayne knew he was “in the wrong” by taking away her moment. He took to his blog to apologize: “I’m sooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans. She is very talented!” he posted. “I’m sincerely sorry.”

Survivor: Africa winner
Ethan Zohn’s cancer has returned but he remains optimistic, yet again. Back in April, Ethan was diagnosed with a rare form of Hodgkin’s disease, which he fought through like a true survivor. After months of intense chemotherapy, he was feeling like himself again, off chemo and preparing for his next challenge – the New York City Marathon. Things recently came to a halt after receiving his post-chemo test results. “ My cancer is back,” says Ethan. “I have never been so scared in my life, for my life.” Although he describes it as a “complete punch in the face” he hopes to find strength and think positively. “Whatever things are thrown at you, you've got to battle through with a smile on your face," he says.
